The Irede Foundation has called on the government to provide access to health care as well as support for young amputees, saying the high cost of prosthetic limbs has made it impossible for a lot of people to get it when necessary.
The Executive Director of Irede Foundation, Crystal Chigbu, said no child should be out of school or limited due to a disability.
She spoke during the handover of prosthetic limbs to the beneficiaries of free prosthetic limbs donated by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation and Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company.
“A lot of people want to get prosthetic limbs but they cannot because of the huge cost of getting a prosthetic limb. A lot of people in developed countries can get this because they have support from their government, so, I encourage the government to help young amputees with affordable prosthetic limbs; and not just any kind of prosthetic limbs but quality ones that will improve the lives of amputees.”
